Kairos ~ Defining Moments

I’ve invested a lot of time into studying and preparing myself to be where I am today, but I cannot attribute studies and preparation for each defining moment in my life.  I’ve had several key ‘kairos’ (defining) moments that have changed the course of my life.  People I’ve met, places I’ve been, opportunities I’ve had, all have occurred because I’ve been at the right place at the right time.

I’ve often wondered if it would be possible to orchestrate ‘kairos’ moments in life.  Is it possible to coordinate bumping into someone and making everything work out for the best?  It’s not likely this would work 100% of the time.  Why?  Because a ‘kairos’ moment cannot be planned, it just happens.

The question then becomes what can you do when a ‘kairos’ moment occurs?  How do you prepare? What do you do?  I’ve learned that life is all about having the right attitude and identifying opportunities.  It’s about getting up in the morning and asking God to give me His eyes so that I can discern what I should or shouldn’t do.  I ask Him to direct my steps so that I meet the right people, speak to the right person, make the right choices, and therewith have the outcomes He’d want me to have in life.

Today I urge you to expect your next ‘kairos’ moment.  Don’t let another amazing opportunity pass you by because you weren’t ready, or perhaps because you couldn’t identify that this is your moment.  Live wisely, ask God to sharpen your skills of identifying opportunities, and be ready for greatness!  Remember, this is the only chance you have to live your life, live it in a way that you’re able to identify and enjoy the ‘kairos’ moments God sends your way.

“Make the most of every opportunity.”
Colossians 4:5 (NIV)
